Let’s address the big elephant in the room, There are so many Real Estate broker out there. How do you know which one is the best fit for you?

There are these guys that charge you no fee at all, and there are these big box brokerage who seem just want to take everything out of your paycheck in exchange for their name. What about everything in between? It is a daunting task

I am not going to try to explain all the brokerage model out there. When i get my license, I don’t have the time to interview all of them, and I am not really interested in talking and understanding all the brokerage model out there either.

I do know one thing However. I know me. I know what I want, and the people that i want to be around with.

So let’s start with that! Stop reading about all the brokerage model out there. Let start with YOU

What do you want out of your real estate license?

Becoming a rockstar agent everybody know, just close a few deal a year and still keep your full time job, or you just want access to the MLS and doesn’t have to rely on other agent? Whatever it is you have to know what you want to get out of your license 1st, and from that. you can ask intelligent question when interviewing brokerages. not just boring question like what’s your split..blah blah blah.

Why do you even get your real estate license in the first place?

Not everyone get their license to broker deal for other people. I remembered the reason I get my license 1st is to by house for myself.. so all the marketing and branding those big box brokerage brag with me goes out of the windows simply because it is not relevant to me yet.

This question can change over time as well. That’s why i move from a Boutique Brokerage to where i am at today, eXp Realty. I no longer broker deal for myself only and I need an environment that allow me to grow.

Who do you want to become?

This is perhaps the most important question of of all the questions. I love my job as an IT Security. Working in Cyber Security is my dream, and I loved my previous manager at Schlumberger don’t get me wrong. But I couldn’t look up to anybody. This is a huge issue. There is no inspiration in the company except one person but he is too far away. I strongly believe that the easiest way to success in life is to find somebody that already have what you want to become, just stay in close proximity with them and add values to their life and business.

Anyhow back to real estate. Is your sponsor/mentor/broker in real estate the person who you want to become? Can you see yourself be like him/ or her in the next 5 years, If yes then just sign up. It’s that simple.

I want to own rental houses so i signed up with my previous broker who own tons of rental houses. Now that mission has been accomplished. I am now on another mission to help other agents do the same thing I did, sell more houses, and especially invest in Real Estate. I couldn’t find any better mentor than Jeff & Amanda. I would listen to their podcast on how they sell 300 houses and still have an amazing life.

Find the heart beat of the company

Every company has a heart beat, you have to feel it. I have no better way to describe it but to use my car buying example again. You can’t read about the BMW. If you compare the BMW to another car. The other car might be faster, have better specs on paper. But man, nothing beat the feeling of that BMW when you go into corner, or floored on that acceleration. It’s a BMW feeling. How can i describe it? I can’t. I have to let you feel it. You probably know i am a BMW fan now.

Any how, back to real estate. You have to feel that brokerage. Perhaps the best way is going to event where everyone hang out, and feel thing for yourself. At the end of the day, It’s these people that you have to put up with on a daily and weekly basis, so if you don’t like them, too bad for you.
